La Tunisie met en vente le luxueux Airbus A340-500 que Ben Ali se réservait comme avion présidentiel, selon le magazine économique tunisien Investir. Ce très long courrier, actuellement en cours d'aménagement à Bordeaux, est estimé à 200 millions de dollars, auquel il faut ajouter une cinquantaine de millions pour les travaux de transformation en version VIP. Le produit de la vente reviendra au trésor public du pays du jasmin. Si l'ego des chefs d'État peut parfois se mesurer à la taille des avions gouvernementaux, l'ancien président tunisien ne faisait pas dans la modestie. Cette version de l'A340 est capable de parcourir 9 000 milles (16 600 km, presque la moitié du tour de la terre) ou de voler dix neuf heures sans escale. Pour comparaison, l'A330-200 de la République française, plus petit et acquis d'occasion, n'offre, lui, qu'une autonomie de 7 200 milles. Une erreur marketing d'Airbus L'A340-500 était un avion démesuré pour le dirigeant tunisien, qui n'aimait pas voyager... D'autres avions en vente À Bordeaux, une certaine inquiétude régnait chez les salariés de Sabena Technics, car l'aménagement de cet avion représente une part importante du plan de charge pour 2011. La direction de l'entreprise a été rassurante. Dans une lettre adressée aux syndicats CGT et CGC, elle assure que "les salariés n'ont pas d'inquiétudes à avoir" et que "le chantier poursuit son cours, tel qu'il a été commandé par Tunisair". La compagnie nationale tunisienne, qui ne souhaite pas s'exprimer sur ce sujet, doit s'en séparer car elle ne pourrait utiliser cet avion en version passagers. Elle n'exploite pas actuellement de réseau long-courrier. Ce quadriréacteur est, par ailleurs, totalement inadapté au trafic de pointe transméditerranéen, même en offrant trois cents sièges. On Feb. 3, the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft successfully landed for the first time on the deck of an aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman. The Hawkeye represents a significant change in how the Navy will conduct battle management command and control in the future. On Feb. 4, a Navy and Northrop Grumman test team conducted the first flight of the X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System Carrier Demonstration (UCAS-D) at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. The X-47B will become the first tailless, autonomous strike fighter-sized unmanned aircraft to launch from and land on an aircraft carrier. On the contrail of these historic accomplishments, Northrop Grumman, in partnership with the Navy, the Centennial of Naval Aviation Foundation, and other companies, officially kicked off the Centennial of Naval Aviation celebration at North Island Naval Air Station this morning. Led by the Blue Angels, the flyover will feature nearly 30 historic Navy war birds, including the Ryan Aeronautical Company's STM Ryan, and Grumman Aircraft Engineering Company's FM-2 Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, F8F Bearcat, TBM Avenger and the HU-16 Albatross. More than 160 aircraft in the current Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard inventory are also expected to fly in the tribute that will conclude with a flyby of more than 30 aircraft from carrier air wing 9 of the USS John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group.
